Volunteer Expectations

MEYHA requires each family to contribute to our association through required volunteer and hockey hut hours. It is important that we have all our families involved in the association so that we can continue to provide youth hockey in our community for our children and affordable. There is a lot of hours our association puts in to have a successful program and sharing that workload helps distribute those hours. 

These volunteer hours will become available throughout the season based on scheduling. When new opportunities arise, an announcement will be posted on the Association Announcement TeamReach.

We aim to keep volunteer opportunities open for all games and tournaments so parents can support each other, even for games their own child is not playing in. This helps ensure that every parent has the chance to watch their child play. It’s essential that everyone contributes across all levels to make this possible.

Teams are highly recommended to take part in planning, setup, and cleanup for their own home tournament.

Three days before an event, any unfilled shifts allow for the volunteer coordinator and team manager to contact a community member to cover the shift and forfeit the available shifts for families.

This volunteer requirement/expectation changes every year so it’s super important to read this carefully due to the changes or needs in our association.

There are three components to this requirement/expectation:

  1. Volunteer Hours
  2.  Hockey Hut Hours
  3. Cash Calendar Fundraising

Please note the Volunteer Hours and Hockey Hut Hours are per family, not per player.

VOLUNTEER HOURS

Each family will provide a separate $300 deposit check on open registration nights. This check will be held until March 1st or until the completion of 20 volunteer hours, whichever comes first. After March 1st, any checks for families who have not completed their required hours will be cashed. Volunteer hours are tracked through the volunteer platform on the association’s website.

This requirement applies to Mites and Squirts.

This requirement is NOT available for the buyout option.

Volunteer hours can be earned in the following ways during home games and tournaments:

  • Announcer
  • GameSheet (Squirts Only)
  • Game Clock
  • Penalty Box
  • Raffles, Chuck-a-Duck, or other fundraising activities integrated into tournaments
  • Annual Water Carnival Pancake Feed
  • Annual local parade participation
  • Serving as a board member*
  • Up to THREE coaching positions approved by ACE Coordinator*
  • ONE team manager approved by the coaches of team*
  • Other opportunities as they arise throughout the season.


Note: There are positions that are required to successfully host games and tournaments, and positions that are optional. If required positions are not filled, even if optional positions are, the team manager may adjust to ensure the game or tournament can be hosted. Team managers will work with the volunteer coordinator to make sure all necessary roles are covered and properly recorded on the volunteer platform.

*These volunteer duties are not tracked through the volunteer platform but remain essential to supporting the association. Attendance at these required volunteer duties is strongly encouraged.

Total (Net) Cost to You if You Complete Required Volunteer Hours: $0

Total (Net) Cost to You if You do not Complete Volunteer Hours: $300 

HOCKEY HUT HOURS

Each family will provide a separate $300 deposit check on open registration nights. This check will be held until March 1st or until the completion of 4 Hockey Hut shifts (equivalent to 8 hours), whichever comes first. After March 1st, any checks for families who have not completed their required shifts, or who choose the buyout option, will be cashed. Buyout checks are cashed immediately. Hockey Hut shifts are tracked through the volunteer platform on the association’s website.

This requirement applies to Mini-Mites, Mites and Squirts.

These shifts are available for both MEYHA or Junior Gold events.

Total (Net) Cost to You if You Select the Buyout Option or Do Not Complete Required Hockey Hut Shifts: $300 

CASH CALENDAR FUNDRAISING

Each family will provide a separate $300 check on open registration nights. This check will be cashed immediately. The association will provide 15 tickets for each player to sell at $20 each, totaling $300. Families will recover their money as tickets are sold. Families with more than two player participants may receive a maximum of two ticket packets.

This requirement applies to Mini-Mites, Mites and Squirts.

All ticket stubs must be returned to the fundraiser coordinator by November 15th

PAYMENT OPTIONS

Cash and checks are to be used on open registration nights, PayPal can be used in place of deposit checks, but the money will not be reimbursed until hours are completed, and NEW this year we will use Crossbar for 2025-2026 registration fees.
